Vanessa Christian

Soprano, Music Teacher, Teaching Artist

Growing up in a tiny town on the Canadian border, I immersed myself in all things music from a very young age, falling in love with Alanis Morissette, Les Miserables, Rachmaninoff, and everything in between. More than anything, I hope to pass on passion for all things musical to my students.

I hold a vocal music degree from Bemidji State University, with continued graduate work in opera, musical theatre, and modern American music at Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, MA. Other creative and scholastic pursuits have led me to places like New York, Rome, and Berlin, performing contemporary and classical opera, musical theatre, and choral works in nine different countries by the age of 30.

Now with 15 years of teaching experience I have been able to zero in on which skills are necessary for anyone to become a self-sufficient, life-long musician. Whether you’re learning as a hobby or in hopes of a future career, music literacy and expression are at the top of the list. In lessons, we emphasize both from the very beginning with motivating joy and a creative approach.

All ages, goals, and abilities are welcome and celebrated in my home studio in Columbia Heights, MN. I hope to hear from you soon!
